Environmental policy of Mercator-Emba, d. o. o.

Mercator-Emba recognises its responsibility to the environment and is committed to the sustainable management of natural resources. Through the adoption of this policy, we affirm our dedication to sustainability, cooperation with the local community, and the well-being of our employees, business partners and the planet as a whole.

In addition to energy sources such as electricity and natural gas, we use significant quantities of water as a primary raw material in our products. Water is also essential for cleaning production lines, resulting in large volumes of process wastewater. Furthermore, we use chemicals, both in cleaning technological equipment and in wastewater treatment, that have indirect environmental impacts.

By managing water, energy, chemicals, waste, the procurement of raw materials and the sale of our products responsibly, we are committed to minimising our environmental footprint.

To achieve this, we adhere to the following principles

  •  Responsible use of water: Reducing drinking water consumption, optimising technological processes, reusing process water, and utilising rainwater for industrial purposes.

  • Treatment of process wastewater: Maintaining an adequate level of wastewater treatment while optimising the use of treatment chemicals

  • Efficient use of chemicals for CIP (clean-in place) washing: Consolidating orders to enable more efficient planning and lower chemical usage, while actively seeking environmentally friendly alternatives.

  • Waste reduction: Prioritising the procurement of raw materials in recyclable packaging, using recyclable packaging for our products, and ensuring strict waste separation to maximise recycling efforts.

  • Responsible use of energy: Transitioning to renewable energy sources where feasible and investing in more energy-efficient equipment.

  • Compliance with legislation: Adhering to all environmental regulations and continually enhancing our environmental practices.

  • Employee awareness: Engaging and educating employees through training and participation in environmental initiatives.

  • Digitisation of business operations: Reducing paper consumption by implementing electronic business processes.

We also regularly provide the Fortenova Group with data essential for calculating our carbon footprint. This includes information on climate risks, our mitigation and adaptation measures, food waste, waste management performance, taxonomy-aligned sustainability data, and efforts to reduce emissions.

The management of Mercator-Emba is fully committed to integrating the environmental policy into our business operations. We will ensure employees receive proper training and will actively collaborate with suppliers and customers to reduce our collective environmental impact.
